Here’s what they are saying about the new Volkswagen Golf Mk8

The Volkswagen Golf Mk8 was unveiled earlier in October and a few media have had the opportunity to take for a drive as we wait for its arrival next year. The 8th-generation Golf is more refined and luxurious than ever, but its DNA has been preserved and enhanced. Here’s what they are saying about the new Golf Mk8.

Those headlights, of course, deserve a closer look: You can specify a state-of-the-art matrix LED system that is more sophisticated than U.S. regulators currently allow. This is top-level technology, taken straight from the premium/luxury segment, and they serve as an indicator of what's hidden behind that innocent mask.

Step inside the new Golf, and fast-forward into the future: The predecessor's conventional layout has made way for a futuristic, fully digital cockpit that is standard equipment even on the lowliest of European-market Golfs. In their top-level version, the screens allow you to rearrange tiles by the touch of a finger, there is a choice between pseudo-analog gages and tiles, the navigation map can serve as background, and many functions can be activated by voice as well. The infotainment system is fast, and even though it could be more intuitive, VW is constantly improving it.

There’s also a more defined swage running from the leading edge of the front doors through to the rear lights, giving it a more defined shoulder line than at any time in the past.

In a development that helps to bring it into line with some rivals, buyers can option Volkswagen’s IQ light package. It includes automatic main beam, strobe-like indicators, and gives the rear lights a distinctive LED graphic.

The new Golf is 29mm longer, 10mm narrower and 4mm taller than before at a respective 4285mm, 1789mm and 1456mm. It also sits on the same 2636mm wheelbase. Despite the subtle increase in size, Volkswagen has managed to improve aerodynamic efficiency – Car Advice
